In recent years, e-commerce has been growing steadily: in the first six months of 2016 there was a 17% increase compared to 2015, reaching 19.3 billion euros in sales. An indicator that encourages more and more companies to equip themselves with the tools to sell through the web as well.
Analysing these figures, presented at the "E-commerce Observatory" conference organised in collaboration with Netcomm and School of Managment of the Milan Polytechnic, we can see how growth is driven by the use of smartphones, through which purchases are made for a total of 2.8 billion euros (15% of the entire e-commerce sector).
Among the most affected product sectors are food&grocery (up 29%), followed by clothing (up 25%) and IT and consumer electronics (up 22%).
Among these, clothing is the most sensitive one: the wrong purchase due to a wrong size or not perfectly fitting is always around the corner, especially during sales periods when people are attracted by big discounts on their favourite items.
To solve the problems related to the purchase of wrong sizes, the startup Right Shoes has created a system that allows consumers to buy shoes online without being able to physically try them on. Right Shoes, one of the 64 projects of Club Italia Invesitmenti 2, aims to simplify the online purchasing process and advise the buyer on the most suitable size for his foot according to the shoe model he wants to buy. An interesting mission if you think that currently 50% of the shoes purchased online are returned due to incorrect size.
To date, Right Shoes has developed two exclusive products: the RS-Shopfit in-store scanner with which every consumer can have their feet measured free of charge, and the smartphone app that allows consumers to have their feet 3D scanned and register free of charge with the Right Shoes service, obtaining a RightShoes.ID, a code that identifies their foot data, to be used for all subsequent purchases. With this technology the possibility of buying the wrong size drops by 80-85% and the ID can be suggested to friends and relatives so as not to make mistakes when buying gifts.
On Mamacrowd, the equity crowdfunding platform created by SiamoSoci, it is possible to invest from 100 euros in RightShoes and 63 other highly innovative startups.
